Due to the nationwide interest in pickleball, the fastest-growing sport in the US for the last 3 years, Open Door Sports ran its first pickleball fundraiser, Pickle For A Purpose, at Dill Dinkers in North Bethesda, MD on Saturday, February 1st, raising nearly $5000. Thirty-six men and women played in a doubles tournament separated into two categories – a beginner level and an intermediate/advanced level. Due to the different categories, the event attracted both people who had played only a couple of times as well as those who play multiple times a week and everything in between. The winner of the beginner/intermediate level was Molly Branson and Mike Worden while the winner of the intermediate/advanced level was Christian Valencia and James Warlick. Due to the popularity of the event, ODS is planning to conduct its next pickleball fundraising event on Saturday, August 23rd.

Open Door Sports Inc. (ODS) was founded in the Fall of 2016 to fill a gap in sports offerings for children with disabilities and kids struggling with a lack of financial resources. ODS currently provides adapted soccer, basketball, bocce, Tball, tennis and yoga programs free-of-charge to children and young adults with disabilities.

Dill Dinkers’, at 7 Maryland locations, offer state-of-the-art pickleball courts designed to cater to players of all skill levels. Each location offers top-tier facilities, including spacious courts, equipment rentals, expert coaching and free non-alcoholic drinks
